Throughout the year the Mattabassett Rifle and Pistol Club sponsors numerous events and competition shoots. We invite members of the public to join us at these events. We guarantee you will have a great time and meet some great people.
If you are joining us for a competition shoot there is no need to feel intimidated, our shoots are for everyone from beginner to expert, no matter what your skill level you will have a great time. So, get moving, dust off that old firearm you've been meaning to take out and shoot and come on down to the range.
Please note that shoots are usually held rain or shine, however, the Club reserves the right to cancel any shoot for any reason at any time. Check the Club's Event Calendar for late breaking information about the shoots.

Every Sunday starting the second Sunday in October through the Sunday before Thanksgiving MRPC's Annual Turkey Shoots
The Mattabassett Rifle and Pistol Club's Annual Turkey Shoots run every Sunday from the second Sunday in October to the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Shoots start at 10:00 AM and conclude at 2:00 PM. The fee is $2.00 per round and prizes are Gift Certificate's to Stew Leonard's.
For those of you who have never been to or seen a Turkey Shoot, don't worry we don't really shoot at turkey's, the format works like this: All shooter's are provided with one shotgun shell (12, 20 or .410 gauge) and are assigned one of the paper targets with a cross hair pattern on it. After everyone has taken their shot the targets are collected and whoever has the closest bb hole to the center of the crosshairs is the winner. You can take a look at a winning target by clicking here.
We have loaner shotguns available if you do not have your own.
Every Spring & Fall Conservation Education Firearm Safety Course
The Mattabassett Rifle and Pistol Club sponsors the CE/FS Hunter's Safety Class twice a year. Normally this class is held in April and October. Watch our Event Calendar for specific dates. When classes are scheduled you must pre-register for this class by calling Sessions Woods WMA at 860-675-8130.
Berlin Fair Fish Pond and Paintball
The Mattabassett Rifle and Pistol Club has had a presence at the Berlin Fair for decades. Years ago we held Turkey Shoots and shoot the bill off the string to win $100 right at the fairgrounds. Although we can no longer hold live shooting events on the fairgrounds we still run two very popular events.
They have moved us into the area of the Fairgrounds known as Dreamland. This is the farthest North side of the fairgrounds that used to be parking lot. It is in the area where the kiddy rides and live animal petting zoo is located.
Our Trout Fishing Pond is a big draw year after year. We stock an artificial pond with 200 live Rainbow Trout. Everyone comes down to try their luck at catching these fish. Yes, you can come in and just look at the fish!!! If you decide to try your luck and you catch one and want to keep it we will clean it and hold it on ice for you until you are ready to leave the fair. If you want to let it go you can take a picture and throw it back in. See our Pictures Page for some shots of previous years.
We have brought live action shooting back to the Berlin Fair. We have set up a paintball shooting area that follows are speed shoot formats. We have steel plates on racks for up to three shooters at a time as well as spinning and noisy targets to bang away on. If you want to figure out who is the best shot amongst a bunch of friends or you are just curious because you have never shot a paintball gun before this is the booth you want to stop in on at the Fair.
So come down and see us at the Berlin Fair (held the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the first Sunday in October).
If you have questions about our fair participation ask them here.
